As mentioned in my previous email, my goal when you walk into my studio, is to make you feel like a work of art - because you are. If all I do in this life is spark joy from the art I create, I'll know I have served my purpose.

Justine replied to one of my model call sessions. She didn't know it at the time she booked with me, but I'd previously met Justine - and she had a profound impact on a special time in my life.

Now stay with me here - this is an important part of the story. In 2019, I was in the hospital for FIVE days after I gave birth to my son, Marshall. For those of you who know me…you know that I had a rough go of it. Justine was my nurse for a couple of those days.

Why is this important? Because she was the only nurse to make me feel seen as a new mom who had just undergone a traumatic C-section and not just another cog in the machine. She was incredibly kind and empathetic and helpful - and I would forever remember that.

Now it was my turn.

Justine was so nervous when she came in but we immediately starting chatting -  I asked her about her life, her story, what made her who she was today…and I realized that she represented SO many women out there who constantly wonder if they are good enough…who want to grow & love themselves exactly as they are right now but don't know where to start.

I told her…."You start here."

By the end of the session, there were tears of joy in her eyes as she told me she felt beautiful & that the experience was truly life changing.

& That's when it hit me - this was EXACTLY why I was doing this. To create a space & experience where women can come as they are, hand over their worries, and let me show them how truly incredible they are.

What made you decide to book a boudoir session with Hannah Vandegrift Photography?:

I wanted to celebrate my journey of growing to love myself just as I am at almost 41 years old.

Were you nervous before your session? How did you feel walking in and how did you feel walking out?:

Nervous..more like panicked! I describe myself as shy and anxious as I ponder always if I am good enough! There were many firsts that I was about to experience…first personal photo shoot ever, first time having my make up done professionally, and the first time ever wearing lingerie! After the photo session, I walked out feeling like my inner queen came out! It was an experience that I will never forget!

What was your favorite part of the experience?:

My favorite part was how Hannah was patient with me after she guided me on different poses. At times, I could feel myself trembling and her calm voice guided me to feel comfortable and confident!

Did this session change the way you see yourself? If so, how?:

Absolutely! I didn’t even need to see the photos as she made me feel beautiful just as I am!

What would you say to a woman who is thinking about doing a boudoir session but feels nervous or unsure?:

If you need a little pick me up because life is giving you lemons, go schedule yourself a boudoir photoshoot! Come as you are because Hannah and the experience she offers is wonderful! Your inner queen will come out, I promise!

Was this boudoir session tied to a specific moment in your life? (wedding, birthday, etc):

Newly divorced and the day before my 41st birthday

Do you have a favorite photo from your session? If yes, why does it speak to you?:

My favorite photos are the ones in the pink lingerie! Hannah picked this outfit and I would have never picked something so revealing. Also I remember her words after taking a specific photo…look at your peach!

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your boudoir journey?:

The quote when you shared one of the photos on your page is perfect about my journey of how much I have overcome. I am a survivor and it brought tears to my eyes! “She will rise With a spine of steel And a roar like thunder. She will rise.” -Nicole Lyons Thank you for making me feel safe, secure, and beautiful!
